What is it?

Balance It is a healthy lifestyle and activity programme for school aged children (5 – 17 years old) in Gateshead. Expert advice and support is provided on nutrition and physical activity throughout the programme to help children achieve and maintain a healthy weight.

We encourage the involvement of parents and carers to support their children throughout the programme.

Why should we bother?

Regular activity, healthy eating and a general healthy lifestyle has a number of benefits including:

  • Increasing energy levels
  • Reducing stress
  • Managing weight
  • Strengthening bones and muscles
  • Giving you the ‘feel good factor’ improving your confidence and self-esteem

How long does the programme run?

Each individual referred on to the ‘Balance It’ scheme will be entitled to up to 24 months on the programme.

A range of indoor and outdoor activities for FREE

  • Expert advice from the dietitian or school nurse
  • Support and advice from a physical activity specialist
  • Group based sessions
  • Fun family activities

Contact your school nurse, GP or practice nurse to inform of your interest in becoming part of the programme. Alternatively contact the dietitian at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital to find out more about the programme before making a commitment to attend an appointment.
