In return for the hard work and commitment putting our patients first entails, we continue to invest both money and time in our staff, in their existing roles and for their future career development.
We are so committed to this goal that we have developed an Inter Professional Learning Council (IPLC) that brings together expertise from all groups within the Trust. We believe education is essential to the future development of healthcare delivery in the NHS.
Healthcare roles have developed more in the last ten years than they have since the launch of the NHS in 1948. No longer do our doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, and all the other essential, skilled health care providers work in professional isolation. We no longer create teams of experts, but we strive to build expert teams
Working at Gateshead, you’ll get used to having cutting edge technology available to help advance your expertise. Like our clinical skills laboratory complete with high tech simulated patients able to emulate real patient conditions, even giving birth! By making these scenarios as life like as possible, we have more confident practitioners delivering better care for our patients.
We have an Occupational Health department who work hard to make sure you have the safest working environment possible, and are also there to help if things go wrong. Nursing and midwifery
Nurses make up two thirds of our workforce and we make sure that we do everything we can to help them be the best they can be.
Organisational Development and Training
As a long-standing Investor in People Champion organisation, we take people development very seriously and understand that we need the right leadership to create the right culture for staff to thrive and be the best that they can be. We take a planned approach to personal development which makes sure that everyone in the Trust has access to meaningful appraisal, and support for continuous learning, both in the workplace and through a range of internal and external opportunities as well as one-to-one coaching.
The OD and Training team provides a service to managers and staff to help meet current and future learning needs as well as providing support to teams as they adapt to change and improve services to patients and service users. We are very committed to supporting the health and well-being of staff and promote a range of initiatives to keep people well at work.

Work based development
