Audiology

QE Gateshead's Audiology Department is based at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

We provide services for adults and children with hearing impairments at community clinics at Bensham Hospital and Blaydon Primary Care Centre.

These services include hearing assessments, advice and provision of hearing aids. Ongoing support and maintenance can be delivered at selected sites. We also provide support to the Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) team.

Our service has extended opening hours from Monday to Friday 8.30am to 5:30pm.

Appointments

Your GP can refer you to our Audiology department for a hearing test if you are not an existing patient at QE Gateshead.

Any sudden changes to your hearing or complaints of pain, discharge, infection or wax should be dealt with via your GP services.

We offer a limited home visit service for housebound patients. Contact the Audiology Department on 0191 445 2530 with any enquiries regarding this service.

Why choose us?

We are an established team of dedicated audiologists who have successfully delivered high-quality hearing services across Gateshead for more than 30 years.

The department has an excellent reputation for delivering audiology services to both adults and children. The service is an accredited training centre for Audiologists and we have links with the University of Sunderland. We are driven to provide a service centred on patient care.

We have modern facilities at all of our outreach clinics, and use digital behind the ear hearing aids alongside the latest technology. There are options to use a conventional ear mould or a slim tube/open fit option (this may not be appropriate for all patients).

If you are an existing patient and would like to see an Audiologist about your hearing aids please telephone 0191 445 2718 to arrange an appointment.

If you need special arrangements to be able to attend appointments please let us know.
