Gateshead Health NHS Foundation Trust would like to advise that Blaydon Urgent Treatment Centre will be closed on Christmas Day (Saturday 25th December), due to extreme staffing pressures.

Those requiring urgent care are advised to instead visit the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, which will be open as normal.

As Covid-19 levels continue to rise in the community, Gateshead NHS staff continue to face high levels of pressure. Due to this, and with some internal supporting services on leave throughout the festive period, we ask all patients to first consider how they can help staff cope and ensure those who need care most urgently can get it.

To help us cope, please consider the following prior to visiting:

  • Our staff are under extreme pressure. Waiting times might be longer for those visiting, and for safety reasons, you may not be seen in the same way as you previously have. Virtual and telephone appointments may be arranged.
  • It is mandatory to wear a face covering in healthcare settings at all times. Please bring a face covering, and make regular use of our handwashing and alcohol gel facilities around the hospital
  • Caring for and protecting our patients is our number one priority. Please help us to limit the number of people on site and reduce the risk of infection to both patients and staff by attending the hospital on your own wherever possible.

Our staff are doing their best to look after you. Please remain patient and remember to be kind.

Blaydon Urgent Treatment Centre will reopen on Sunday 26th December, when it will be open as normal between 8:00am – 9.00pm.
