What you can expect from this service
Each referral is triaged by Specialist Nurse. Children whose condition meets the criteria for this service will be offered an appointment for an initial assessment to be carried out. The specialist nurse will then discuss the diagnosis/ differential diagnosis with family and provide information and support, make suggestions for improvement and self-care, and possibly prescribe medication. Assessment may include investigations such as scanning of the bladder, or analysing urine as appropriate. The nurse may prescribe aids to assist the child’s condition, and may prescribe disposable continence products for children aged 4-19 if there is a medical reason why they are unable to be toilet trained.
