Ward 8 Acute Cardiology

Our cardiology ward treats patients who have been admitted to hospital with a probable acute cardiology problem.

The most common problems people are admitted to this unit are for:

  • chest pains (either angina/heart attacks or deemed non cardiac)
  • heart Failure
  • arrhythmias

Patients are admitted via A+E, where they will have been seen by a chest pain assessment nurse or referred from other wards within the trust.

We have facilities for monitoring ten patients at anyone time. Patients are monitored for the first 12-24 hours dependent on their diagnosis and are therefore moved within the ward when this is no longer required.
