Patients have praised the NHS staff in Gateshead and awarded top ratings for patient care, according to the results of a national survey.

The Adult Inpatient Survey is produced annually by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), who monitor, regulate and inspect health and social care services in England. It is based on feedback from people who spent time as a hospital inpatient during July 2019.

Gateshead Health NHS Foundation Trust received excellent results which highlighted that 98% of patients felt they were treated with dignity and respect, while 98% had confidence and trust in their doctors.

Gateshead was also rated higher than the national average of other NHS Trusts in England in several key areas, including:

  • The hospital and ward: Gateshead was praised for the cleanliness of wards, as well as the care given by non-clinical staff

  • Confidence and trust in the nursing staff

  • Emotional support from staff, levels of privacy, and the teamwork of staff

Hilary Lloyd, director of nursing and midwifery at Gateshead Health NHS Foundation Trust, said: "We are extremely pleased with these results. They’re a testament to the hard work of our staff and it’s great to see our commitment to high-quality care reflected so clearly in the results of the CQC Inpatient Survey."

"It’s heartening to see that we scored so highly when it comes to care and treatment, with patients praising the emotional support from our staff and reporting their high levels of trust in our nurses. Well done to every single member of staff who all work so hard to provide an exemplary level of care to our patients."

"Whilst we will use the survey results to celebrate what we do well in Gateshead, we will also work on improving any areas where patients feel we need to. We’re committed to giving our patients the very best experience when they come to us and this means we will continually assess where we can do better."
