Maternity staff in Gateshead have produced a series of online videos to advise new or expectant mums on some important issues around pregnancy – with the aim of keeping mothers and babies as safe and healthy as possible.

Maternity and clinical staff from the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Gateshead have recorded four useful videos, which include: infant feeding advice, smoking in pregnancy advice, vaccines for pregnant mothers, and details of the hospital’s birth reflections service.

Karen Hooper, lead midwife for risk, safety and quality, said: "I hope these videos will provide a really useful resource for new mums and dads looking for help with some key issues that affect many parents.

"We help new parents every single day and this trusted advice from midwives and other clinical staff proves so valuable to people making choices around things like vaccination and stopping smoking. There is so much information available at all times, that it can be confusing but these videos contain the key things you need to know, delivered in bite-size videos from NHS professionals."
