Gateshead celebrates pregnancy and childbirth

Posted on Wed, 15/05/2019

Families and NHS staff have been coming together to help celebrate pregnancy, childbirth and parenthood as part of the International Day of the midwife in Gateshead.

Gateshead health held two events in different parts of the town to connect maternity staff with more than 100 new or expectant families.

Those attending got the chance to chat informally with a midwife or healthcare support worker and visit short workshops on pregnancy, birth and breastfeeding.

There was also information about antenatal classes, hypnobirthing, and baby first aid advice from St John’s ambulance.

It was also an opportunity for those who had already given birth in Gateshead to offer feedback about their maternity experience and if there’s anything that could be improved.

Gateshead is also part of the digital midwife scheme so parents were able to see how a new maternity notes smartphone app is transforming the way they can get support and keep in touch during their pregnancy.
