Harrison Tilson, who is 4-years-old, sadly lost his great-grandma Betty earlier this year. She was cared for staff on ward 22 at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Gateshead before sadly passing away. Harrison decided to thank those staff personally, and raise money for the ward through QE Charitable Funds, the hospital’s charity.
Harrison’s grandma Judith Newham, said “Harrison is doing it because he is so kind and thoughtful and to show the family’s appreciation and how grateful we are for how we were supported in our hour of need by the staff on Ward 22. It is easy to say thank you but we wanted to do something to show how grateful we all are to the ward. Harrison, being the amazing little character he is, was asked by his parents if he would like to do the Junior Great North Run and raise money for the doctors and nurses who looked after his great grandma Betty at the hospital. Harrison was excited to do this.”
Harrison’s grandad, John Makepeace, said: “Losing a member of your family is difficult for anyone, but for a 4-year-old trying to make sense of it all, it is extremely difficult. He is an amazing little fella with such a big heart and caring nature, we all love him to bits and it is such a lovely thing he is doing.”
Clare King, charitable funds officer, said: “We are absolutely delighted that Harrison will be running in this year’s Junior Great North Run in support of our charity and fundraising for ward 22. We’re so grateful to this amazing little boy with a big heart who wants to help at such a young age.”
