Camera equipment donated to QE for bereaved parents

The Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU) here at Gateshead has welcomed a generous donation from a charity, made up of equipment that will help bereaved parents cherish memories of their children.

4Louis, a UK charity who supports anyone affected by miscarriage, stillbirth and the death of a baby or child, donated a camera, printer and lights.

The camera and printer will be used by families who have lost their premature babies to take and treasure photos as a loving memory of their children.

Jennifer Kay, SCBU ward manager said, “Many thanks to 4Louis for the generous donation of the camera equipment. It will hugely benefit bereaved families by capturing precious moments.

“The lights provided for the trees will indeed be a welcome distraction outside of the clinical area.

“We are extremely grateful for the donation and I know this will mean a lot to the families we care for on the ward.”

SCBU here at Gateshead provides care for newborn babies from 32 weeks onwards.

The team supports midwives and parents in caring for babies with extra needs on the postnatal ward, to help prevent mothers and babies being separated unnecessarily.
