Gateshead NHS celebrates National Apprenticeship Week 2022

The Learning and Development Team at Gateshead NHS has been working to mark and celebrate National Apprenticeship Week 2022 this week. This year's theme is 'Build The Future', and focuses in on the benefits of apprenticeships to learners, organisations and communities.

Kicking off the campaign was the beginning of mythbusting that lasted the entire week, and which have been summarised in our handy infographic below.

Also shared was the first of our learner profiles, as Trust colleague Stacey Bell shared her experience of studying a CMI Level 5 in Leadership and Management.

On Tuesday, the leaders who employ apprentices were put in the spotlight. First up was Sue Blackburn, lead for nursing apprenticeships, followed by inpatient pharmacy chief technician Denise Taylor and ECC team leader, Kelly Marku, with all three explaining the benefits of hiring an apprentice.

Wednesday saw focus switch back to those who do the studying, with more employer profiles shared from Rachel BurlinsonKaren HooperChris Drew and Danielle Alderson. The quartet shared the positives and challenges of apprenticeships, as well as their top tips for those considering undertaking one.

Training providers were the focus of attention on Thursday, with our partners sharing more around the importance of strong relationships with the Trust, their advice to managers and ambitions for the next year. A thank you was also shared to all of the partners who help make apprenticeships a success at Gateshead.

And to celebrate the fantastic work of apprentices within the Trust, Friday also saw the Trust present an ‘Apprentice of the Year’ award as we celebrated all who completed an apprenticeship with the Trust in 2021.

This year’s theme for the week was ‘Build The Future’, and focused in on the benefits of apprenticeships to learners, organisations and communities.
