Gateshead NHS staff share their most inspirational women

Earlier in March, the Trust celebrated International Women’s Day (IWD). Among the celebrations was a meeting of our women’s Network. Elsewhere, site resilience supervisor Jade Betts and consultant gynaecological oncologist Nithya Ratnavelu kindly took the time to share their experiences of working in male dominated roles over on our blog.

Chief executive, Yvonne Ormston, made a special appearance in the well-received #BreakTheBias roundtable podcast, hosted by the North East and North Cumbria Integrated Care Board. On-site, dedicated IWD stalls were held at both the QE and Bensham Hospital, with a wealth of resources around women’s health issues shared by members of our health and wellbeing team and volunteers from different teams within the Trust.

Upon visiting the stall, members of the Gateshead family were asked to share the most inspirational woman in their life and sum up why in a sentence – before adding their inspiration to our wall of fame. Below, we share these inspirations as we continue to celebrate the outstanding women in our lives.

The Wall of Fame:

The most inspirational women in my life are my mum and my sister, because they are kind, hard-working and loving. I want to see them dearly as soon as it can be possible, as they are in Ukraine.

The most inspirational woman in my life is my mother, because she is my friend, my support, and loves to be part of our family.

The most inspirational woman in my life is Yvonne Ormston, because of her compassionate leadership and personal courage.

The most inspirational woman in my life is my mother, because she has overcome multiple consecutive life difficulties and still manages to spread positivity to everyone around her.

The most inspirational woman in my life is my daughter, because she pushes herself out of her comfort zone to overcome her anxiety.

The most inspirational woman in my life is my mam, because she is the most selfless, kind and caring person. She has been through so much recently, yet she is still always there for me and always puts others before herself. If I can be half the woman she is then I’m winning at life!

The most inspirational woman in my life is my grandma, because she taught me the importance of being a woman. You can achieve anything you want in life – kindness, empowering others, and to be me.

The most inspirational woman in my life is my mam, because she puts everyone before herself! She looks after everyone before putting herself first.

The most inspirational woman in my life is my gran, because she was always there when you needed help or guidance, she never judged you, she gave you love and cuddles all of the time, good or bad.

The most inspirational woman in my life is my mam, because she was the most caring person and I miss her terribly.

The most inspirational woman in my life is my gran, because she made me believe that I could do anything and be whatever I wanted to be.

The most inspirational woman in my life is my big sister, because she is always there for me and my family and always gives good advice.

The most inspirational woman in my life is my mam, because she helps in any way she can and taught me well.

The most inspirational woman in my life is Dr Sylvia Earle, because she is a very cool marine biologist.

The most inspirational woman in my life is my mam, because she took on the role of mum and dad bringing me up.

The most inspirational woman in my life is my mam, because she has encouraged me in every aspect of life. She is a strong independent woman and a role model to many.

The most inspirational woman in my life is the Queen, because throughout all of the ups and downs in life, her resilience is fantastic!

The most inspirational woman in my life is my mother, because she has shaped me into the woman I am today.

We’d like to thank all who visited our IWD stalls, and all who shared the most inspirational women in their lives with us.
