Longest staying COVID patient praises staff that ‘saved his life’.

Caring critical care staff gave a huge send-off to our longest stay critical care patient after he battled COVID-19 for over five months.

This week, 39-year-old Matt Stewart was finally transferred out of Critical Care after spending 156 days on the unit.

He was first admitted with COVID-19 on 12th January 2021 and is currently the longest staying patient on the ward.

Matt said: “The care, support and encouragement from the whole critical care team have been amazing: they literally saved my life.”

We are delighted that Matt is now well enough to be moved from our critical care ward and moved to the hospital’s respiratory ward. We hope he continues to make a full recovery and can be discharged home soon.

Thank you to all of the incredible staff who have looked after him for the last five months.
