The Queen Elizabeth Hospital has been named as a Quality Data Provider by the National Joint Registry (NJR) after successfully completing a national programme of data audits for 2020-21 – the fourth year in a row the team has received this accolade.
The team includes Emma Glancey, theatre modernisation project manager and NJR hospital data manager for Gateshead Health NHS Foundation Trust, working alongside Lindsey O’Hagan and Vicki Milburn, who are surgical implant co-ordinators. Lindsey and Vicki input the data and chase up any information with the surgeons.
Emma said: “We’re proud to have been named as a Quality Data Provider for the 4th year in a row, which shows the commitment and drive of our team. Improving patient safety is of the upmost importance and something we take very seriously so to be able to contribute to that nationally with insight and data is really satisfying.”
The NJR monitors the performance of hip, knee, ankle, elbow and shoulder joint replacement operations to improve clinical outcomes for the benefit of patients, clinicians and industry. The registry collects orthopaedic data in order to gain insights to support patient safety, standards in quality of care, and overall cost effectiveness in joint replacement surgery.
NJR targets necessitate having a high level of patients consenting for their details to be included in the registry, and for demonstrating timely responses to any alerts issued by the NJR in relation to patient safety concerns, if necessary.
