  • Warning!  Residents have informed Officers in Trading Standards that they have received calls from people purporting to be from Gateshead Health/NHS. 

    After asking various questions about their general medical condition, the caller then tries to sell a product such as pomegranate pills at a cost of £60, as an alternative/complimentary remedy.  If you have further information please call 0191 433 3987 or email tradingstandards@gateshead.gov.uk

  • Nursing students have voted Northumbria University’s continuing professional development programmes the best in the country for two years in a row.

    Maintaining its leading position, Northumbria was awarded the accolade by the Student Nursing Times for its Continuing Professional Development in the category of Nurse Education Provider of the Year: Post Registration which recognises institutions which offer continuing education and professional development for qualified nurses to develop their leadership, management and clinical skills.

  • QE Gateshead named as one of the top 40 hospitals in the country.

    The Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Gateshead has today been named as one of the best hospitals in the country across a number of key performance areas.

    The Top 40 Hospital Awards are run by CHKS and are based on the evaluation of 22 key performance indicators covering safety, clinical effectiveness, health outcomes, efficiency, patient experience and quality of care.

  • The latest edition of our foundation trust member magazine QE News is ready!

    The May edition covers the new Friends and Family test that's been introduced at the QE Hospital, as well as important information on changes to the site during the improvement works.

  • Members, patients, stakeholders and local residents are being invited to a special drop-in event to find out about the building improvements taking place on the Queen Elizabeth Hospital site.

    Those attending will be able to view the plans and speak to the estates staff and clinicians involved in the two new builds – The Emergency Care Centre and the New Pathology Hub.

  • The children of some of the staff who work at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Gateshead have been putting their stamp on a £32m project to build a new emergency care centre.

    The children, aged between five and 11, attend the Holiday Den, a subsidised childcare programme which runs during the school holidays for the children of staff who work for the Trust, other NHS organisations or the private sector.

    During the Christmas holidays, they received a visit from Miller Construction, the main contractor, currently delivering the QE’s new £32m Emergency Care Centre.

  • Mums to be who have their babies in the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Gateshead are receiving the highest quality of care possible.

    That’s the assessment from the NHS Litigation Authority (NHSLA), which has awarded the QE a level three rating for maternity risk management standards, one of only 15 maternity units in the country to achieve this (including two other units in the North East).

  • New head doctor appointed for Trust

    A specialist in gynaecological cancers has been appointed as the new medical director at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Gateshead.

    Consultant Keith Godfrey has worked at the QE for 12 years and has been deputy medical director for the past three.

    The medical director is the most senior doctor in the hospital and is expected to ensure that the medical care patients receive is at the very centre of everything the hospital does as well as provide leadership for the hospital’s 125 consultants.

  • THE next stage of work on the Queen Elizabeth Hospital’s new emergency care centre will see the main entrance close for two years.

    The main entrance in to the Gateshead hospital now will be through the outpatients department.

    Ian Renwick, Chief Executive at the QE, said: “We have been informing patients with their appointment letters of some of the changes that are going on at the QE whilst we build this fantastic new centre. I do apologise to patients, visitors and carers for any disruption they may face when visiting the QE.
