  • QE receives national accreditation for staff health and well-being

Gateshead Health NHS Foundation Trust has successfully achieved the Health & Wellbeing Good Practice Award from Investors in People for the second time

After undergoing a rigorous assessment involving interviews with over 100 staff, the Trust celebrated maintaining the Award at the end of November 2013.   This followed the Trust being the first hospital trust in the region to have achieved the Award at their first assessment three years ago.

  • QE Gateshead is among a handful of international organisations that have had a winning poster design showcasing their quality improvements chosen to be displayed at the fourth annual International Forum on Quality and Safety in Healthcare in le Palais des Congrés de Paris in France, in April.

  • The Nursery on the site of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Gateshead will be closing on the 31st January 2014.

Sadly the very difficult decision to shut was taken by the Trust Board on the 27th November as it is no longer economically viable to run. The nursery needs to run at 80% occupancy to break even and despite communications campaigns to raise awareness, its occupancy has remained low at 48%.

  • QE Gateshead has been categorised as one of the safest in the country by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), the regulator for all care providers.

This week the CQC issued the first of their ‘Intelligence Monitoring Reports’ which gathers local and national data and assigns each NHS trust a banding based on their risk to patients. Every trust in the country has been graded from band 1 (highest risk) to band 6 (lowest risk) and Gateshead Health NHS Foundation Trust was awarded a band 6 rating.

  • The rheumatology department has been given more than £700 by the family of a patient that was treated by the team.
