Hilary Lloyd has been appointed as the new director of nursing, midwifery and quality at Gateshead NHS Foundation Trust.

She takes up the role after three years working as the deputy to current director Gillian McArthur who retires later this year.

Hilary first joined QE Gateshead in 2011 bringing a wealth of expert nursing knowledge and experience, coupled with a strong track record of excellent leadership.

She has previously worked as head of nursing development at City Hospitals in Sunderland and as a senior lecturer in nursing at the University of Sunderland. She has been a qualified nurse for 25 years and is currently studying for a professional doctorate in nursing practice.

She said: “I’m delighted to take up this amazing challenge at such an exciting time for the QE. I’m passionate about nursing and I’m really looking forward to leading a team that delivers high quality healthcare.

“At Gateshead we aspire to deliver nursing and midwifery that puts the patient at the very centre of everything we do, and I really believe that we can provide excellence as standard. I hope to bring my enthusiasm and experience to this role when I the lead for a fantastic team within Gateshead.”

Ian Renwick, chief executive of QE Gateshead, said:

“I’m delighted to confirm that Hilary Lloyd is our new Director of Nursing, midwifery and quality to replace Gillian MacArthur when she retires in September. Hilary has worked as deputy director for some time and her appointment will allow a smooth handover and transition in preparation for Gillian’s departure.

“This is a very exciting time for health services in Gateshead and Hilary will be a vital part of a team that will deliver some major developments planned for the QE during rest of the year. This winter a new £32m specialist emergency care centre will open for our patients and it's something that we're all incredibly excited about. We're also opening a brand new state-of-the-art pathology centre of excellence, which will be one of the best facilities of its kind in the UK.

“I’d also like to pay tribute to the current director Gillian McArthur who is retiring after a hugely successful 25 year career at the hospital. Everyone at the QE wishes her all the best for the future.”

Hilary will join the Gateshead NHS Foundation Trust board, which is made up of eight non-executive directors (one of whom serves as chairman) and six executive directors.
