New nurses needed for new hospital

Posted on Fri, 15/08/2014

Later this year an exciting new chapter in healthcare will begin for the North East when a brand new £32m Emergency Care Centre opens in Gateshead.

The exciting new unit will modernise the way patients are cared for during an emergency, by bringing together a wide range of services into a single point. QE Gateshead are now looking for the people who will help bring this new building to life with the recruitment of around 20 new nurses.

Construction work on the new hospital is coming to an end and the team at the QE are now looking to increase the number of nurses to care for our patients in the new building once it opens.

Once complete the state-of-the-art facility will bring together accident and emergency, walk in centre, GP services, medical & surgical assessment and urgent children’s services all under one roof, which will mean even better treatment and less waiting around for the patients.

It will also be a bright, modern building with single occupancy, on suite rooms for all patients in the short stay wards.

This represents a new approach to healthcare in the UK where everything comes to the patient, instead of the patient having to move around the rest of hospital building.

Gillian McArthur, director of nursing and midwifery says:

“The new building will mark a fantastic new era for the NHS in Gateshead, but far more important than the new facility are the people we put in it. This is an incredibly exciting time to join the Trust, so if you are a fully qualified band 5 nurse with the right skills, drive and motivation we want to hear from you.

“At QE Gateshead we want the very best and are looking for enthusiastic candidates with a caring and compassionate nature who share our vision of patient centred care. This is a fantastic opportunity to work in a brand new building with a brand new ethos for healthcare. There’s nothing quite like this anywhere else in the country so this is an incredibly exciting time to work as a nurse in Gateshead.”

The hospital is holding an Open Day on Saturday 30 August 2014 where nurses will have the opportunity to visit the new Emergency Care Centre and talk to staff about the opportunities available.
