Gateshead care wins national recognition

Gateshead Care Partnership, which brings together the NHS, council and local GPs, was presented with a prestigious Health Service Journal (HSJ) Award last night.

The partnership was presented with the award for Improved Partnerships between Health and Local Government in recognition of how they have streamlined health and social care services for the people of Gateshead.

Gateshead Care Partnership was formed in 2015 and is a unique collaboration between QE Gateshead, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust (NTW), Gateshead Council and CBC, whose membership comprises all the local GPs. This means that GPs, hospital staff and social care professionals from the council all come together and help bring a much more coordinated system for patients.

Julia Hickey, Chairman at QE Gateshead, said: “This award is a fantastic achievement for everyone involved in Gateshead Care Partnership as it offers real recognition for all the hard work by our staff and close partners in health and social care.

“The ultimate aim of Gateshead Care Partnership is to bring together all the expert knowledge and resources into a single point of contact so that patients and families can navigate the health and social care system far more easily. By working alongside our partners at the Council and CBC, we can continue to put patients, and their needs, at the heart of everything we do.

“The HSJ Awards is the world’s largest healthcare awards programme and aims to celebrate and reward the outstanding contributions of healthcare staff. Every day NHS teams across Gateshead are delivering vital services to the public and we are delighted to have won this accolade as it really recognises the hard work of our staff out in the community.”

Councillor Mary Foy, Cabinet Member for Health and Wellbeing at Gateshead Council, said: “The Gateshead Care Partnership puts patients at the centre of its services and I’m delighted that the staff who are working so hard to improve care for Gateshead residents have been recognised by such a prestigious award.”
