Demand for emergency care grows

Posted on Tue, 19/03/2019

A new infographic shows how the number of people coming to the Emergency Care Centre (ECC) for treatment is growing every year, with more people needing to be admitted to hospital.

Despite this increase Gateshead is still seeing more patients within four hours than ever before and the average time spent in A&E is just 2.48 hours.

The number of patients attending the ECC has increased by 8.1% since it opened in 2015 - which is an extra 6,985 people for clinical teams to see.

Despite this extra pressure Gateshead is still ranked in the top 20 for A&E and 99.3% of our patients would recommend the unit to friends and family if they needed treatment.
