International Clinical Trials Day a great success

To mark International Clinical Trials Day, QE Gateshead's Research and Development team had a successful day with staff and members of the public who turned out to their information stand to learn more about how research shapes the future of healthcare.

The team were on hand to showcase the ground-breaking research and clinical trials which are currently being conducted across the Trust, as well as providing information on why it's important to improve the healthcare for the future through research and how people can find current clinical trials relevant to them.

International Clinical Trials Day is an annual celebration to recognise people who conduct clinical trials and research across the world, as well as the opportunity to say thanks for what they do every day to improve public health.

This year, the day coincided with the launch of the National Health Institute of Research (NIHR) Be Part of Research campaign, which aims to encourage staff, patients, carers and the public to get involved in research and show their support, whether they’re taking part or just by having the conversation with friends and family.

Yvonne Marriott, research coordinator, said: “The day was a big success and it was great to see so many people come along to find out more about the research and clinical trials being conducted across the Trust and how they can get involved.

“Research plays a crucial role in providing the evidence we need to advance services, treatments and care. Without our volunteers, it is harder to discover these advances so we are extremely grateful for all they do.”
