Chief Executive blog: Welcome Yvonne

Posted on Mon, 10/06/2019 by Yvonne Ormston

Our new chief executive Yvonne Ormston MBE reflects on her first week in the job and talks about the warm welcome she has received from staff and partners. Yvonne joins the organisation from the North East Ambulance Service (NEAS), where she has been the chief executive for more than four years, and brings a wealth of experience from across the NHS.

It’s the end of my first week here at Gateshead and I just wanted to say how lovely it is to be here and thank all the staff that I’ve met for such a fantastic welcome.

I’ve been out and about across the organisation and tried to drop in on as many teams as I can to see how things work across the different areas of the Trust.

I’ve got lots more visits planned in the coming weeks and months but I’m particularly keen to see our community services, which weren’t part of Gateshead Health when I worked here previously.

As many of you know I worked as the deputy chief executive here between 2005-2014 and have a long history with the NHS in Gateshead. It’s been brilliant to see so much progress being made and all the new facilities here at the hospital, but also to see lots of familiar faces as well.

I’ve been bowled over by the passion and commitment to patient care that staff clearly demonstrate though our Trust’s values of putting the patient at the centre of everything we do.

It’s been a brilliant first week and I really look forward to meeting more of our staff, patients, and partners in the coming weeks.

If you see me please do stop me, say hello or just tell me what’s on your mind.
