Local kids take a look behind the scenes

More than 100 pupils from a local school attended a special event at the hopsital this month, aimed at educating them on the diverse range of jobs available.

The Workforce Development team hosted the pupils from Kingsmeadow Comprehensive School in Dunston, Gateshead. The Year 10 students were given bitesize taster sessions of a few areas of work within the NHS, including maternity, the medical sSimulation centre, Nutrition and Dietetics, apprenticeships, and resuscitation.

Teachers from Kingsmeadow reported back that most of the students felt “inspired” and were amazed at the variation of job roles we offer.

One pupil on the visit said: "The visit gave me an eye opening insight into the variety of careers within the NHS and the intriguing way in which people are trained to work in the NHS."
