New video showcases quality care at Gateshead

Posted on Wed, 31/07/2019

A new video has been launched today by Gateshead Health NHS Foundation Trust to showcase how a ward accreditation scheme aims to promote safer patient care.

Ward accreditation schemes are designed to improve the quality of patient care on wards and departments by motivating staff and sharing best practice between areas.

The accreditation scheme in Gateshead provides wards with a set of quality and safety standards, which are assessed at annual assessment days. The assessment panel reviews the ward or department based on an assurance framework, which was developed through the Trust’s Nursing and Midwifery Strategy.  The four key ambitions within this framework are:

  • high quality care every time
  • putting patients first
  • driving excellence in patient safety
  • shaping the future workforce.

Dr Hilary Lloyd, Director of Nursing, Midwifery and Quality, said: “Providing the best quality care is at the heart of everything we do here at Gateshead, so we are incredibly proud to be launching our video on our ward accreditation scheme today.

“We have worked closely with NHS Improvement to ensure we foster a supportive culture to empower our nurses and midwives to improve patient care.  There are wonderful examples of the dedication and hard work of all our staff and the ward accreditation scheme gives us an opportunity to share their experience and acknowledge the amazing effort they put in. It also helps us understand where wards or departments may need help and better understand the challenges our staff face so we can do our best to support them.”
