Are you interested in joining the Gateshead Health NHS Foundation Trust volunteers team?

Gateshead Health NHS Foundation Trust is hosting a drop-in session on Tuesday October 1 in a bid to expand its growing team of volunteers.

Whether you are seeking career experience or simply want to give back to the community - there is a wide variety of ways in which you can help to complement and enhance the work of our staff and improve patient experiece.

Our volunteers generously give up their time to take part in activities such as meeting and greeting visitors to the Emergency Care Centre (ECC), talking and listening to patients on the wards and supporting families in the maternity unit.

The event is open to anyone enthusiastic and dedicated enough to join the team with prior experience welcome but not necessary.

Members of staff will be on hand to answer any questions or queries applicants may have and explain the exciting list of potential roles future volunteers could be involved with.

Volunteers have described their many differernt reasons for getting involved with the work of the trust:

Meet & Greet volunteer, Pam, said:  “I took early retirement as a social worker and I decided I wanted to give something back to the NHS. I love the banter and seeing lots of different people. It’s great feeling useful when people are lost and need your help.  The volunteer team is smashing.”

Critical Care volunteer, Mel, said: “The staff on Critical Care saved my life and after I recovered, I wanted to find a way to say thank you. When I found out about the opportunity to volunteer on the ward, I thought it would be a great way to show my gratitude and also to help give hope and comfort to other patients at this difficult time in their lives.”

Dining companion, Chloe, said: "I want to be a nurse. I’m doing my GCSEs at college and I hope to do an Access to Healthcare course next year.”

Applicants are welcome to call in to the Education Centre (rooms 4 and 5), between 12pm and 5pm on Tuesday October 1.
