Wedding Bells in Ward 2

Caring staff and local businesses in Gateshead helped bring some happiness to a local couple who wanted to get married despite being confined to a hospital ward.

This week, Ward 2 at QE Gateshead held a beautiful wedding for a patient and his future wife. The nurses on the ward planned a wonderful ceremony in just 3 hours that morning, managing to gather flowers, a buffet, drinks, wedding music and most importantly, a wedding dress for the bride-to-be.

Tracey Lindsay, Macmillan Specialist Palliative Care Nurse said: “A huge well done to the amazing staff on short stay ward who pulled together a wedding in just a few hours for this patient and his partner. The care and compassion from all involved shown through in the busiest time of the year.”

We would like to say a huge thank you to all the local companies who helped and donated to make this a special day for the couple.

The companies who were involved were: Costa, Amigo and Subway based in the main entrance of the QE, Emmaus - the charity shop that donated the wedding dress and Low Fell Florist for the beautiful flowers and flower hairband.

Without the amazing staff and the generosity of the local businesses, the day could not have gone ahead. We hope the newlywed couple had a wonderful day and congratulations from all of us here at Gateshead Health Foundation Trust.
