Cervical Cancer Week, Smear For Smear

Posted on Wed, 22/01/2020

This week it's Cervical Cancer Week and our staff are supporting the Smear For Smear campaign, encouraging all young women to book in for their Smear test.

Sharon Denise Clark, Colposcopy Nurse Specialist explains: "Cervical Cancer is one of the most common cancers in women under the age of 35, yet one in three young women do not attend cervical screening - Numbers continue to sadly decline. Women of any age often tell us they are too busy with family or work life, or scared/worried and embarrassed - Cervical screening does not have to be an embarrassing experience.

We all need to prioritise our health - 80% of us get HPV and around 90% of infections clear within two years. Your Practice nurse, Nurse practitioner, GP or Colposcopist will be more than happy to chat to you before an appointment if you have concerns, questions or have had a bad experience and want to ensure this does not happen again.

Please don't be the woman who left it far too long to have that cervical screening test. We are urging you to attend for your screening to help prevent cervical cancer."
