National Apprentice Week - Meet Jack Lawrence

Posted on Fri, 07/02/2020

As National Apprentice Week draws to a close, we look at the success from one our previous Business Administration Apprentices who started with the Trust back in September 2015.

Jack Lawrence started as an apprentice undertaking a Intermediate Apprenticeship in Business Administration within the Resourcing Team. On successfully completing his apprenticeship Jack secured a permanent Band 2 post as a Resourcing Assistant before commencing a Band 3 secondment as a Project Support Officer/Trainer with the HealthRoster Team. At the end of his secondment Jack then moved to a Band 3 position as an IT Support Desk Technician in February 2019.

At the end of this month, Jack is due to leave GHFT and move to South Shields and Sunderland Foundation Trust after successfully obtaining a Band 5 Trainer/Implementer for the rostering system Health Roster, and we all wish him well in his new venture.

Jack said: "The apprenticeship has helped me in my career as it has gave me exposure to a variety of skills that I have been able to transfer to all my roles within the Trust and has aided me in getting promotions."

Here are his top tips for new apprentices:

  • Listen to you mentors and act upon their feedback
  • Be punctual and have a willingness to learn
  • Take any opportunity to do qualifications
  • Volunteer to do projects so you can see a process from start to finish.
  • Have the attitude that every day is a learning day
  • Ask you fellow apprentices about what they do in their role to get an understanding of the differences between you jobs

We wish him the best of luck in his new role!
