Welcome New Nurses

The latest nurse welcome event in Gateshead had some special little helpers to promote NHS careers and assist new starters get settled in.

The welcome events are designed to help newly qualified nurses to meet others who are starting with the Trust, speak to current members of staff and understand more about the Trust.

It’s a great way to ask any questions and use as a platform to settle into their new role.

However, this year our newly qualified nurses were greeted by some very special guests… our future nurses! To help celebrate the Year of the Nurse and Midwife, we recruited some tiny nurses and midwives to learn about what it’s like in the profession.

The children had a fantastic night and we look forward to seeing what the future holds for our future nurses! Most importantly, welcome to our new recruits joining us in March.

Victoria Jobson, Senior Sister said: "To celebrate #TheYearofNurseandMidwife we invited some of our future Nurses to our Welcome Event. As nursing ambassadors we want to inspire the next generation of both boys and girls to think about a career in nursing.  This was a great opportunity to start conversations to help transform perceptions of nursing, tackle outdated stereotypes, and ensuring that the young people within our community learn how rewarding a career in nursing can be."

Dr Hilary Lloyd, Director of Nursing and Midwifery said: “This is a great time to be joining Gateshead as a nurse and it was fantastic to see so many of our new recruits before they formally start with us. I think this is a really positive way of integrating people into the organisation before they officially start work. This event is part of a wider strategy to attract and retain the very best nurses around but we also want to show just how much we care about them and their careers from the very start of their employment with us.”
