A Big Thank You

Posted on Tue, 19/05/2020

On behalf of staff and patients at Gateshead Health NHS Foundation Trust, we would like to say a very big thank you to all of the organisations and individuals who have made donations to the Trust and QE Gateshead Charitable Funds, our hospital charity, over the last few months.

We have been overwhelmed by the generosity of local people, who have come out in force to support our staff and patients. Donations of essential items such a food and toiletries have been a great help to staff who have been unable to easily get to the shops and provided a welcome boost during long and challenging shifts.

While we are unable to allow visitors into the hospital at the moment, patients have been grateful to receive donations of toiletries and clothing which have allowed them to stay comfortable.

Yonne Ormston MBE, Chief Executive of Gateshead Health NHS Foundations Trust added:

“We would like to say a very big thank you to all of the organisations and individuals who have made donations to the Trust and QE Gateshead Charitable Funds, our hospital charity, over the last few months.

“I’m so proud of our amazing staff who have gone above and beyond, often working long hours to ensure that our patients receive the best quality care. Your generosity has made a real difference to NHS staff working on the front line and in our local community as well as our patients who are sadly unable to receive visitors at the moment.”

In total, we have received over 200 donations, including £2,000 worth of toiletries from Gateshead locals Angela Illingworth, Carl Redhead, and Colin Dobson. These toiletries were added to care boxes and distributed to staff to help them feel refreshed and revived during long shifts.

Big businesses have also come out in force to help. Ralph Lauren and Very generously donated pyjamas for patients, enabling them not only be comfy but also very stylish! Local clothing brand, Barbour also kindly produced and delivered PPE gowns for staff. We’d also like to say thank you Lily Simmons who is raising money for our charity by bravely shaving her hair off tomorrow.

And finally, Blackburn Rovers’ striker and Gateshead local Danny Graham is selling prized memorabilia to raise money for QE Gateshead Charitable Funds. If you would like to see how he is getting on with his challenge or to donate please visit his Just Giving webpage.

We are glad to say that due to the generosity of the people who have donated to the Trust, we now have sufficient supplies of toiletries, food and other items to support our staff and patients. If you would still like to donate items, we ask that you donate them to the Gateshead Foodbank so they can go to those most in need. If you would like to make a financial donation, please visit the QE Gateshead Charitable Funds website where you’ll be able to make a donation.

Thank you again from the bottom of our hearts for all the support you have provided during this very difficult and challenging time.
