The NHS in Gateshead is celebrating a double achievement – with its nurses up for two awards in the most prestigious national awards.

The Nursing Times Awards recognise the amazing work of the nursing community and highlight some of the brightest talents in the profession.

Marceline Ndam, a nurse who works with patients on an elderly care ward at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, has been nominated in the Rising Star category. She said: "It's an honour and pleasure to be recognised for the efforts made to change the narrative especially when there is a lack of diversity in medical and nursing education."

Meanwhile, the Hospice to Home team are finalists in the Nursing in the Community Award. The Hospice at Home service helps terminally ill people in Gateshead to spend their last days at home with loved ones.

Melanie Fogg, lead, said: "Being shortlisted for this award is a great privilege and is testament to the hard work from everyone across the team in the year since we launched the service.

"The last 12 months have been a challenging time, but our team has continued to provide outstanding patient care throughout. We’re all honoured to be recognised with this nomination."

Both finalists will make a presentation to the judges of the Nursing Times Awards in London in September before the winners are announced at the end of October.
