Caring hands, compassionate hearts

Save the date: Wednesday 13 October 2021

Gateshead NHS Foundation Trust's 3rd Palliative Care Symposium

The need for compassion, dignity and respect when caring for patients is integral to all that we do.  In palliative and end of life care this is a fundamental that all health and social care professionals should uphold.  Recommendations from various public enquiries including the Francis report (2013) highlight the need to improve care and emphasise that staff must continue to listen to the people they are caring for and to the staff who are responsible for that care.  Our aim is to bring together like minded renowned experts in this field and explore and learn from their reflections and wisdom.

Places are limited due to COVID-19 pandemic restrictions; however, the symposium will be streamed virtually allowing us to share this expertise regionally and nationally.

A cost of £25 per delegate will be required on booking for delegates outside of the organisation and is free to Gateshead NHS Foundation Trust employees.

Our programme for the day includes:

  • Dr Julien Abel – Director of Compassionate Communities UK, Palliative Care Consultant
  • Dr Kathryn Mannix – Campaigner, author and retired Palliative Care Consultant.
  • Dr Collette Straughair – Senior Lecturer in Adult Nursing, Northumbria University.
  • Sara Gorman - Chief Executive Officer, Edbert’s House.
  • Prof Joshua Hordern - Associate Professor of Christian Ethics, University of Oxford.
