Parkinson's Nurse Specialists

The job of our two Parkinson's Disease Nurse Specialists are:

  • Working in partnership with people who have Parkinson’s Disease.
  • Assessing people with Parkinson’s Disease, identifying problems and planning care to meet needs.
  • Helping to identify appropriate therapies and care services as well as involving voluntary organisations as appropriate.
  • Providing education, advice and information for health care professionals.
  • Follow-up and on-going support. A link person to liaise on your behalf between hospital and community services.
  • Monitoring, advice and support for patients, carers and professionals with new or different drug regimes.
  • Involvement in research and development.
  • Providing information, advice and support to both you and your family which will help you to:
  • Understand and accept your diagnosis.
  • Understand your drug treatment, its actions and possible side effects.
  • Handle problems.
  • Preserve independence.
  • Maintain quality of life.
