Shape the NHS of tomorrow through research
Research has built the NHS we have today. Getting involved in healthcare research could help shape the NHS for the future, discovering life-saving treatments, uncovering the secrets behind diseases, and developing the answers to the problems causing ill health today.
You can help develop healthcare for the future by getting involved in research.
Every year, more than half a million people take part in health research. Patients and members of the public also help design research studies and advise what our priorities for future research should be.
The National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) is the research arm of the NHS, and works with patients, healthcare professionals and researchers to support healthcare research.
Taking part in research can involve many different activities such as completing a questionnaire, taking part in an interview or group discussion asking you about your opinions or experiences, giving blood or tissue samples, or trialling a new drug or intervention.
Research studies can also take place in a variety of settings, and some research may ask you to visit a clinic or hospital, whilst other studies may involve visits to your home, or may involve you completing an online or paper questionnaire and returning this to the research team.
If you want to find out about research studies taking place at GHNT that you may be able to get involved with, please speak to your consultant or a member of your clinical care team who should be able to advise you about the research currently taking place or put you in contact with one of our research nurses.
