The world that we live in is changing at an incredible rate and it’s so important that healthcare and the NHS is able to match and meet these challenges head on.

But despite this ever increasing change there is one constant that ensures our patients get the best possible treatment and care – our people.

It’s vital that our Trust has an engaged and motivated workforce living the values and behaviours of the organisation, and therefore responsive and adaptive to the changing needs of our environment and community. That’s why we’ve set out our plans in our People Strategy.

This document sets out the strategic workforce priorities that out Trust has agreed for the next five years as well as some of the work that is required to realise our ambitions. People who work and volunteer for the Trust make the difference between good care and excellent care, and everyone, in whatever role is valued. In the simplest terms our people save lives and they change lives.  It’s the people who make Gateshead a great place to work and receive treatment, placing  compassion and care at the heart of our organisation.

The People Strategy outlines the approach we will take around a whole range of issues such as increasing demand, integration of services, seven day services, health and well-being, and diversity & inclusion.

The workforce required in a healthcare world is changing, roles and responsibilities are evolving and traditional organisational boundaries and professional demarcation lines are being eroded in the face of new ways of working.

We need to be innovative in our offer to our workforce to enable us to fulfil our ambition of being the best employer in our local health economy and our People Strategy will ensure that we’re best placed to fulfil that promise to both patients and employees.

Our people are at the heart of everything we do and we can only achieve our vision and live our values if we engage and maximise the contribution of all our people.
