Gateshead hospital becomes the first NHS organisation in the North East to be given a prestigious award in recognition of its commitment to investing in staff.

Gateshead Health NHS Foundation Trust, which runs the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, has held the Investors in People award since 1996 and three years ago added the Health and Wellbeing Good Practice Award to its portfolio. Last year, the Trust was awarded gold status for IiP– demonstrating world class levels of investing in staff.

Now the Trust has become the first NHS organisation in the North East to become an Investors in People Champion, meaning it is committed to sharing and learning from experiences, encouraging good practice across the region and supporting continuous improvement by helping other organisations.

Yvonne Ormston, Deputy Chief Executive, said: “We are delighted to have been approved as an IiP Champion.  This is an excellent endorsement of our longstanding association with the Standard and of our commitment to improving our people practices. We believe this not only has benefits for our staff but in turn helps them to deliver high quality excellent care for our patients. Our role as a champion will enable us to help other organisations learn from our experiences but also for us to learn from others to ensure that we are continually driving forward the best possible environment for our staff.”
