Stroke Services

If you or someone you know has had a stroke in the Gateshead area, these web pages may help you to understand a little more about what has happened and what the effects might be.

Remember that every stroke is different and every patient and their family are affected differently. Not everything on these web pages will be relevant to you.

There are also some useful links to patient information and other stroke related resources, as well as contact details for further information and help.

The Gateshead Stroke Service is a group of health professionals based at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital who care for patients who have had a stroke. The team is dedicated to providing the best care for you, your families and carers. The unit provides specialist treatment and therapy which is proven to help people recover from a stroke.

Once you leave hospital, your care is transferred to the community stroke rehabilitation team. They will work with you and your family in your own home as recovering from a stroke can take many months.

You and your family and carers will be involved in all stages of your individual treatment and in the planning and development of services.
