A patient who has been treated for bowel cancer at Gateshead Health, shares his experience after treatment at the Peter Smith Surgery Centre.
Since mid-February 2024, I have been to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital so many times it all started when the routine 2 yearly bowel test showed anomalies; hence my first port of consultation was the bowel screening group where I was referred onwards for colonoscopy. I had this procedure 3 times and was eventually was referred to the wonderful care of Miss Oroog Ali and her team.
The course of treatment after discussion with Miss Ali was that major surgery was required to solve the problems I had the operation on 27 March 2024, at the Peter Smith Surgery Centre with 5 days of recovery in Ward 27.
I went back to see Miss Ali and received the wonderful news that the operation had been a complete success that all cancer had been removed from my body and that no other treatment was required.
I wish to put on record how well I was treated at the Queen Elizabeth by all, too many to mention, under the wonderful leadership of Miss Ali. From the moment, I walked into the hospital meeting receptionists, porters, cleaners, and catering all showed me wonderful care and attention.
Thank you to the pre-operation team who prepared me for my operation, and the theatre staff with their various skills used during my procedure. All staff of ward 27 (Julie, Senior Nurse in particular) physios, doctors, and all medical staff on the ward.
I have told many of the first class treatment at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Gateshead under the leadership of Miss Ali and her team.
