Work Experience

If you are a student at a local Gateshead school, or at college and are thinking of a career in the NHS, then the QE Gateshead Work Experience Project is for you!

Work experience placements are essential to young adults who would like to experience the world of work and gain information about a range of careers in order to make informed career choices.

Providing work experience placements enables the Trust to build invaluable links with the surrounding community through working with local educational establishments.  By providing work experience throughout the Trust, we hope that we will be viewed as an excellent employer for the future.

Work placements are offered in a number of different areas across the Trust.  In addition, medical, midwifery, nursing and physiotherapy shadowing placements are also available for those who wish to gain a broader understanding in these areas.  Some departments offer work experience placements on an ad-hoc basis and others have specific weeks when they offer their work experience programmes.

Applicants are required to attend an induction morning prior to the commencement of their placement.

(Placements can not go ahead if the applicant fails to attend the induction)
Induction dates are:

  • Wednesday 18 March and
  • Wednesday 15 July

How to Apply;

If you would like to apply for any placement within the Trust please complete the online work experience application form. On the application you should state which placement programme you are applying for and which date(s) would be suitable.

The Work Experience application process for 2019 placements will open on Monday 2nd December 2019 and close on 31st January 2020. Applications received after the closing date will not be considered. We aim to notify all applicants of the outcome of their application by the end of February 2020.
